About Mark
Mark was born and raised in Deerfield, Illinois, a northern of suburb of Chicago, by his Mother, Beth, and Father, Bill. He has an older brother Jack and two younger brothers, Luke and Matthias. He currently lives in Chicago with his girlfriend.
He was hired by NBC Sports Chicago after graduating from Marquette University in 2012. He began as a part-time digital media producer and in 2013 was promoted as the company's secondary Bulls reporter. In 2018 he was promoted up to the lead Bulls reporter.
He also earned a position covering the top high school football teams in the state for NBC Sports Chicago's weekly segments on DRIVE, similar to HBO's Hard Knocks. Those segments aired on High School Lites each Friday of the high school football season. In 2014 he covered the 7A state champion Providence Catholic Celtics. In 2016 he was nominated for a Midwest Emmy for his work on "Play Like a Champion: Miles Boykin's Journey to Notre Dame." He co-produced a 30-minute TV special and wrote a longform feature on Boykin, the star wide receiver of that Providence team who now plays for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens.
He began his collegiate academic career as a broadcasting major but his love for writing led him to pursue a journalism major during his sophomore year. He worked as a general sports reporter for two years at the Marquette Tribune, the school's newspaper, covering women's volleyball. His senior year he was promoted to the men's basketball beat, covering a team led by Jae Crowder that advanced to the 2012 Sweet 16.
Following his promotion to the basketball beat, he founded a website, Paint Touches, to act as an extension of his written work at the newspaper. He and two other student writers provided fans with the most in-depth coverage and analysis on the Marquette Golden Eagles, and he continued that work for two years after graduating in 2012. It has generated more than 2.5 million hits since its inception.
He also freelanced in college at outlets such as Fox Sports Wisconsin, Reuters, Associated Press, Gambling.com and ESPN Milwaukee.
