Marquette basketball content at Paint Touches
When Mark was promoted to the men's basketball beat at Marquette, he aspired to write more than the two stories required of the bi-weekly newspaper. So in October 2011 he created Paint Touches, a website providing up-to-date information, statistics, opinion and analysis on the Marquette Golden Eagles. Since its inception Paint Touches has generated more than 2.5 million page views and has become the most reputable website for Marquette basketball coverage.
In addition to the online content, Strotman also created a Twitter account, @PaintTouches. Tweets include play-by-play during games, analysis, breaking news and linked articles. The account has 7,000 followers. The Facebook account created also has more than 600 Likes.
In 2012 he received the Excellence in Journalism gold award from the Milwaukee Press Club, and received the Online Innovation award from The Marquette Tribune at the end of his senior year. To this day the latter remains his most rewarding accomplishment.
Mark covered the team year-round, providing game coverage, breaking news, advanced statistical analysis, player and coach features, recruiting and columns. In 2013 Strotman secured a one-on-one two-hour interview with head coach Buzz Williams. From the interview he produced a six-part series on the head coach's journey from small-town kid to Division I head coach.
After he graduated in 2012, Mark maintained his coverage on the website while also fulfilling his duties in Chicago at NBC Sports Chicago.
During his time with Paint Touches, Mark also freelanced for services such as Reuters, CBS Sports, Associated Press, Scout.com and Fox Sports Wisconsin.
